They say the most challenging branding exercise for a design company is self-branding. It’s a daunting prospect to design for yourself that which you offer professionally to others. But what propels the process is the sharing of ideas, the injection of inspiration from unexpected sources and momentum of a creative partnership in bloom.

And we’ve had some fun with the development of our identity, from choosing the right name, to finding a suitable typeface. Then there was the exhilarating moment when we discovered how the ampersand looked and what it implied when rotated within the logotype. Coffee was spluttered in excitement, initial sketches were exchanged, tweaked and finally digitally rendered before our ‘look’ started to take shape...

The next exciting phase was designing and printing our stationery. We’re big fans of print and we know the business card is integral to the proverbial first impression: like the handshake, it speaks volumes of its owner.

Helping us to get the detailing and colour matching right, was a very supportive team at KMS Litho. Taking an active role in the printing of our collateral meant we were able to make informed decisions regarding ink coverage, stocks and finishes and we were delighted to find KMS’s painstaking attention to detail matched our own. Print expertise falls somewhere between art and science, as we discovered; sharp eyes and pedandtry are quite at home in this environment.

Litho printed, triplexed and finished with embossing and clear foil, these cards have an important job to do. They’ll be introducing Ampersandesign through verbal and visual means – as well as communicating the non-verbal and non-visual. All we need to do now is circulate...
