When we were invited to make a visit to see a new client who wanted us to design an identity for their boutique hotel, we didn't expect our journey to be quite so far...
The Huazhen Hotel is a boutique hotel perched on a picturesque mountaintop near the extraordinary mountains of Zhangjiajie in central China. These miraculous pinnacles were the location for a number of films, including 20th Century Fox's 'Avatar'.
Having been flown to the nearby airport we were driven to near the hotel's location, where we were transferred to the hotel's luxury 4x4 to begin the journey up an incredibly steep, winding road that had been built up the mountainside to access the hotel. We captured this part of the rather momentous journey in our identity for the hotel, which embodies traditional Chinese feng shui architectural values, as well as some rather dramatic views – a perfect place for the discerning client to relax and unwind in their spa.
Our client wanted us to capture the essence of their hotel from a European visitors perspective, as it was soon to be completed and appearing on Chinese national television. We were also asked to produce a number of promotional images for the hotel while we were on location, so we delighted in capturing the traditional structure at night-time. The mountains of Zhangjiajie is such an inspirational location, and the development of the Huazhen Hotel was a creative journey we truly embraced being a part of!
